An avid cinematographer, stills photographer and darkroom expert who developed the first colour separation techniques in western Canada, Collin Hanney left a legacy of film and photographs that is in the process of being archived.

Spanning 50 years, Hanney’s photographic explorations described an arc from Bloody Falls at Coppermine in the Central Arctic - to the great rain forests of Chiapas in southern Mexico.

With his 16mm Bolex movie camera, a Rolleiflex for B&W stills and a Leica for colour slides, Hanney recorded with an artist’s eye the heart of all that each adventure revealed.
